Co-housing at Graven Hill, Bicester
The Graven Hill Sub-Group of Still Green met for the first time on Saturday 24th June 2017 and resolved to proceed with the development of a 26 unit co-housing project. Of the 10 members present 9 pledged to put up a deposit which will be used to reserve a suitable plot on the Graven Hill development site at Bicester. Hinchee Hung shared the expertise she gained through her work on the Woodside co-housing project and presented a financial model and outline sketch to get the group thinkng about scale and cost of a scheme. This proved immensely helpful and the group decided to proceed with detailed negotiations with the landowner, Graven Hill Development Company, immediately. In parallel, contact with a suitable housing association will be sought to initiate discussions on opportunities for the inclusion of rented units within the scheme. A recruitment campaign is also planned for the New Year.

Graven Hill Village is the UK’s first large scale self- and custom-build opportunity, which has started going up on the edge of Bicester. Given the difficulty we have experienced in finding a suitable site in Milton Keynes, we are currently in discussion with Graven Hill Village Development Company about the possibility of purchasing land on the site for a co-housing community. (Graven Hill was established in 2012 by Cherwell District Council who wholly own the development company.)
